It’s Christmas jumper day at Telford’s Chrisbeon office furniture and stationery store.
Management and staff went to work in Christmas jumpers to raise funds for their chosen charity Macmillan Cancer Research.
“It’s the second successive year we have supported the fundraising Christmas jumper day and it brings a bit of fun for our staff and customers during the run-up to the festive season,” said partner Richard Hughes.
Chrisbeon run their office furniture and stationery store from Stafford Park, Telford.
A leading Shropshire office furniture supplier has been appointed a stockist for a range of electric height adjustable standing desks as part of a drive to promote physical movement in the workplace.
Chrisbeon, of Stafford Park, Telford, is now stocking two different ranges of entry level and executive electric sit/stand desks to introduce health benefits in offices where currently only one percent of UK workers have the choice of sit-stand workstations.
“Britain lags far behind Europe where 90% of the office workers in Scandinavia now have access to sit-stand desks,” said Richard Hughes, a Chrisbeon partner.
“A new study recommends that employers look at how to give their staff breaks to allow them to stand and move around as well as having workplaces designed to allow people to work more easily either at their desk or other parts of the office while standing up.
“Another piece of research shows that British people sit on average for 8.9 hours each day and 70% of sitting time is at work. Research now provides compelling evidence that prolonged sitting has major health impacts such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity, certain cancers, depression and muscle and joint problems.”
He said it was recommended that office workers should spend at least two hours a day standing and light walking during working hours to curb the health risks of too much time sitting down.
Chrisbeon, said Richard, had a manual adjustable range which converted an existing standard desk into a standing desk in only three seconds and will assist employers with a demonstration of the height adjustment process of the different desk options in their Stafford Park showroom.
He added: “Thomas Jefferson, third President of the United States, novelist Virginia Wool, former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Leonardo Da Vinci all worked using a standing desk.”
For a demonstration he invites employers to pop into their Chrisbeon Telford showroom or contact them on 01952 292606 or email sales@chrisbeon.co.uk
Patrons of Shropshire Chamber of Commerce were given a flavour of business with a difference when they visited the Telford showroom of Chrisbeon, long established office furniture and stationery suppliers.
For the Stafford Park based company founded 41 years ago had a surprise in store for their visitors.
On the chairs of Patron Forum members was a model red bus stress toy – a replica of a real red former London Routemaster parked out of sight at the rear of the Stafford Park premises.
The 1966 London double deck bus has been converted into a mobile furniture showroom and members of the Forum were invited to tour the lower and upper decks which contain office furniture supplied by Chrisbeon.
Said Anton Gunter, National Sales Manager, Global Freight, Halesfield: “I’ve never seen a showroom like this before. It brings a new meaning to mobile.
“This is a unique way of bringing a subject to life and is a really interesting concept.”
Chamber Chief Executive Richard Sheehan said: “I think this is a great idea – it certainly captures the imagination.”
During the presentation to their 20 guests, Chrisbeon gave an outline of their promotional merchandise that can contain company logos – and there was an immediate take up.
Said Chrisbeon partner Richard Hughes: “Chamber Forum members found the opportunity of being able to have gifts such as mugs, pens, key rings and bags with their corporate logos printed on them an exciting opportunity.
“We also featured our new healthy working furniture for employees who want to sit and stand during the day. The innovative range of products includes electric height adjustable standing desks as well as a method of converting existing desks into a standing desk within three seconds. All have significant health benefits if used correctly.”
Taste Not Waste, Telford’s newest charity shop, has a philosophy which is similar to the one held by long-standing business furniture specialists Chrisbeon.
For Stafford Park-based family firm Chrisbeon operate a recycling policy and are very much against waste of any kind.
So when Taste Not Waste approached them regarding a furniture donation, Chrisbeon had no hesitation in agreeing to a quantity of their popular Pre-Loved used office furniture.
As a result, they have donated two desks, three chairs, three lockers and a filing cabinet, in all worth around £500.
“Taste Not Waste, which has only recently opened its charity shop in Dawley, was obviously in need of help and we were willing to respond to a plea from the local community,” said Chrisbeon partner Richard Hughes.
“As a local business we felt we should do our best to help them and our Pre-Loved stocks of used furniture are extremely popular. Pre-Loved has always been a big part of what we do.”
Said Pauline Jackson of Taste Not Waste: “We are thoroughly touched by the generosity of Chrisbeon and are absolutely thrilled with the new office furniture they have kindly donated.
“The excitement surrounding the project is phenomenal and we appreciate local businesses supporting their community in such worthwhile projects.
“It is with the backing of established businesses, such as Chrisbeon, which makes it possible to deliver this much needed venture, at the same time helping those in need and creating a more caring community.”
She added: “We would like to express our utmost gratitude to the company for giving us their support.”
A bottle of champagne was presented to Jim Wilson to celebrate his 25 years of service with Telford-based Chrisbeon.
The office furniture and stationery supplier of Stafford Park also gave him £350 worth of vouchers for a rally and a race school day at Oulton Park.
Jim, 42, of Brookside, is Chrisbeon’s fourth longest serving employee having joined the family owned business on a YTS scheme.
He started in the warehouse, progressed to furniture deliveries and installations and for some time now has been based in Chrisbeon’s Telford showroom on furniture sales.
Jim, who is married with two children, didn’t think he had completed 25 years. “I was really surprised, but very pleased,” he added.
Said Chrisbeon partner Richard Hughes: “We value Jim highly. He has been an extremely loyal, reliable and knowledgeable employee.”

It is the 10th new van to be bought by Chrisbeon from Greenhous of Telford who have also been a customer of the office furniture and stationery supplier for the last 20 years.
Said Craig Hughes, partner of Chrisbeon of Stafford Park, Telford: “The 3.5 tonne, long wheel base Vauxhall Movano Luton conversion van with tail lift is ideal for delivering bulk office furniture items.

“Our vans cover an average of 20,000 miles a year delivering office furniture and stationery to Shropshire and nationwide customers and we replace them on a set mileage cycle.

A special range of new educational products has been unveiled by one of Shropshire’s leading stationery and furniture suppliers.
Chrisbeon, of Telford and Shrewsbury, has launched 7,000 new products for the classroom, including a large range of bespoke exercise books.
The exercise books, which can have a school’s name and logo printed on the cover, are expected to prove particularly popular.
“This range of bespoke exercise books can even have different coloured pages,” said Chrisbeon partner Richard Hughes.
“The coloured pages will help with the teaching of students with dyslexia. In addition to colour, the exercise books can also include gridded pages.”
Another feature of the new educational supplies, suitable for pupils from reception age to sixth form, is a new range of arts and crafts products for pupils to create artwork and school projects.
Said Richard: “The products are for children to use and teachers to teach with. The focus of the range is on items which are widely used in the classroom.
“Schools can register for a retrospective discount which means the more they spend, the more they save. Registration includes them receiving a user name and password which we will issue for the ordering of products on line and the benefit of 30 day credit terms.”
